UAB Finishes Fifth At U.S. Collegiate Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - For the seventh straight year the UAB synchronized swimming team posted a top-five finish here at the U.S. Collegiate Championships hosted by the University of Incarnate Word on Saturday.
In the team competition, Maragareta Jakovac, Meryl Grandia, Brittany McCauley, Stephanie Cardwell, Georgia Luch, Jami Schwendau, Michele Rushfeldt and Shaina Boe posted a score of 92.833 and a fifth-place finish for the Blazers.
In the duet competition, Jakovac and Grandia took fourth place with 92.167 points, while McCauley and Cardwell finished seventh with 85.833 points.
Jakovac, Grandia and McCauley finished eighth in the trio competition with 86.333.
The overall winner of the competition was Ohio State University with 98.0 points. Stanford (80.0), Canisius College (76.5), Incarnate Word (66.5) and UAB (56.0) rounded out the top-five teams in the 23-team competition.
The UAB synchronized swimming team will return to action on May 1 and wrap up its season at the U.S. Nationals in Palo Alto, Calif.
