UAB Synchronized Swimming Tops Florida On Saturday

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The UAB synchronized swimming team claimed first place in five events on Saturday afternoon and defeated Florida, 97-84.
The Blazers' Margareta Jakovac, Meryl Grandia and Brittany McCauley combined to win the trio competition with a score of 87.167. Fellow teammates Georgia Luch, Jami Schwendau and Shaina Boe teamed up to finish second with a score of 84.333.
In the duet, Grandia and Jakovac paired to take first place (89.500), while McCauley and Stephanie Cardwell teamed up to finish second (86.667).
In the team competition, Grandia, Jakovac, McCauley, Luch, Schwendau, Shania Boe, Stephanie Cardwell and Michele Rushfeldt claimed first place with a score of 90.000.
In the elements competition, Jakovac, Grandia and Boe finished first, second and third, respectively.
In the "C" figures competition, Cardwell, Schwendau and Luch also took the top-three spots.
UAB is back in the pool for another competition next weekend. The Blazers will host Incarnate Word on Feb. 21 at the Bell Aquatics Center in Birmingham, Ala. at 3 p.m. CT.
