Synchronized Swimming Loses to Defending National Champion Stanford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB synchronized swimming team lost to defending national champion Stanford, 90-61, on Saturday in front of a packed Bell Aquatics Center crowd. The Blazers will be back in action as they host their final home meet of the season against Georgia at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
UAB began the meet by getting a third place finish in the trio competition with junior Frances Holloran, sophomore Meryl Grandia and senior Sara Petrov posting a score of 85.750. In the duet event, Grandia and Petrov scored a mark of 88.00 to finish as the Blazers' top finishers in third place.
Junior Maria Cecilia Garcia was second in the solo event with a score of 86.250, while UAB took second in the team competition as well with Halloran, Garcia, senior Vanessa Dash, senior Andrea Dash, Grandia and Petrov posting a score of 90.250.
Stanford was the first team to beat UAB this season.
The team resumes action on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Georgia in the Bell Aquatics Center.
