Wilbur Allen enters his second season at UAB.
Allen, who was on staff with Andy Kennedy at Ole Miss, arrived in the Magic City for the 2020-21 season after spending the previous year as Director of College Scouting for Babcock Hoops, a sports media company.
Prior to joining Babcock Hoops, Allen was an assistant coach at Appalachian State for the 2018-19 season.
The season before, Allen served as coordinator of player development at Ole Miss under Kennedy. In that role, he was responsible for the scouting of potential prospects, preparing game plans and working with players regarding academic progress and off-court development. He also served as an assistant coach on an interim basis for 12 games. Allen was a Graduate Assistant at Ole Miss for the 2016-17 season.
Prior to coaching in the college ranks, Allen served as the head coach at the NBA YAO School in Beijing City, China.
He began his coaching career at the famed Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Allen was the associate head coach from 2008 to 2013. While with the Warriors, he coached four NBA players: Ben McLemore, Sindarius Thornwell, Troy Williams, and Quinn Cook. In the 2011-12 season, Allen helped guide the Warriors to a perfect 44-0 record, which resulted in the school’s eighth national championship.
Allen graduated from Temple in 2006 with a bachelor of business administration in international business and marketing. He helped lead the Owls to four NIT appearances under legendary coach John Chaney.
