BIRMINGHAM – Belmont used a 6-run sixth inning to take down UAB (11-8) by a score of 10-4 on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins (8-11) blasted three home runs in the inning.
Belmont got the scoring started in the top half of the third inning when 9-hole hitter Michael Lereau hit his first home run of the season. Later in the inning, Jake Maddox singled home Charlie Davis to give Belmont a 2-0 advantage through three innings.
After a UAB pitching change, the Bruins immediately put up two more runs in the top of the fourth. Charlie Davis tripled to right center to drive in those two runs and put BU up, 4-0.
The Blazers scored their first run of the day in odd fashion. Kevin Hall Jr. hit a sac fly to the second baseman who caught a pop up behind first base. Landon Beaver dashed home to cut the Belmont lead to 4-1.
Brady Waugh got the Blazers closer in the bottom of the fifth. Waugh pushed across two more on a single and a Belmont error to bring around Alex Dupuy and Andrew Hunt to cut the Bruins' lead to one.
Then came Belmont's big inning as it sent 10 hitters to the plate in the frame. The Bruins homered three times thanks to Nate Webb (pinch hitter), Charlie Davis, and Cavan McMeans.
The Blazers got a single tally in the bottom of the ninth by way of Andrew Hunt's second home run of the season, but it wasn't enough as Belmont took the middle game of the series, 10-4.
