UAB Falls to South Florida at Home

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Men's Basketball team (12-8, 3-4 American) dropped their fourth straight conference home game against South Florida (12-7, 4-2 American) 82-69 on Thursday night. Daniel Rivera (14), Jacob Meyer (13), and Chance Westry (12) all scored in double figures. Evan Chatman went for 11 rebounds and nine points, just one point away from a double-double.
Joseph Pinion led South Florida with 25 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Izaiyah Nelson scored 16 points with 10 rebounds and three blocks.

- Andy Kennedy's starting lineup of Robinson, McPherson, Meyer, Chatman, and Rivera was the same as the Blazers first matchup against South Florida, the only other time that five has started together.

- Daniel Rivera made eight shots from the foul line, tied for the second most by a Blazer this season.
- South Florida blocked nine UAB shots which is the most all season against the Blazers.
- UAB shot 29.3% from the field (22-for-75), 16.0% from three (4-for-25), and 84.0% from the free-throw line (21-for-25).
- First points of the night went to Ahmad Robinson on a bank shot through contact [2-0].
- Ahmad Robinson got seven of the first ten UAB points, including making his first three-point shot on the night [10-12].
- UAB went on a tough three-minute span without a field goal and missed seven straight field goal attempts. Jacob Meyer ended that streak with a three-point shot at the 10:26 mark [18-19].
- South Florida immediately responded with a three of their own before Evan Chatman pulled the Blazers back within one [21-22].
- Pinion made his second-consecutive three before adding a pair of free throws for the Bulls, scoring eight straight for South Florida [23-27].
- UAB tied the game at 30 with a three ball by Westry and a lay in by Chatman [30-30].
- The Blazers missed their last 10 shots ahead of the break allowing the South Florida lead to get as big as 11 points just before the half [34-45].
- UAB went on two 4-0 runs early in the second half including a nasty dunk by Lindsay-Martin. Ari Gooch came in and made an impact with two rebounds, a steal, and two made free throws over a two-minute span [48-57].
- South Florida went on an 8-0 run after that with two made shots behind the arch to give the Bulls their biggest lead of the game [48-65].
- UAB couldn't quite cut the lead to single digits but did get it to 10 with 3:43 to play [65-75].
- Final score: UAB 69, South Florida 82
- UAB heads to Texas next week, visiting UTSA and North Texas. Tipoff against the Roadrunners is set for 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday, January 28.
