UAB Keeps Road Streak Alive at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS. - The UAB Men's Basketball team (13-8, 4-4 American) beat UTSA (4-17, 0-9 American) for their 5th straight road win 83-73 on Wednesday night. UAB was led by 17 points from Daniel Rivera, while Chance Westry (14), Jacob Meyer (13), and KyeRon Lindsay-Martin (10) all scored in double figures. Lindsay-Martin was one rebound away from a double-double.
Brent Moss led the Roadrunners with 19 points and seven boards. Jamir Simpson also added 18 points.

- Dayjaun Anderson made his first ever start for UAB tonight and his first ever Division I start (transferred from junior college this summer). Anderson scored his most points since Dec. 1 against Middle Tennessee (12).
- Daniel Rivera had 11 first half points and he finished with 17, which is the most he has scored since Jan. 14 at Tulane.
- UAB won the rebounding battle 41-35 for the first time since the Tulane game on Jan. 14.
- Jacob Meyer reached double-digits for the 5th straight game with 13 points.
- UAB finished by making 14 of its last 16 from the free throw line, which proved to be the difference in the game. UAB made seven more free throws than UTSA.
- UAB shot 49% from the field (28-for-57), 33% from three (6-for-18), and 66% from the free-throw line (21-for-32).
- UTSA scored the first points of the game on a lay-up by Jamir Simpson. The Roadrunners kept that momentum going on a 7-3 run to open the game [3-7].
- Daniel Rivera made his second three-point shot as a Blazer. This cut into the Roadrunner lead with 13:15 to play in the half [10-12].
- Ahmad Robinson ignited a 5-0 run with a three-point shot. An emphatic dunk by Daniel Rivera put UAB up 17-15.
- The Blazers closed out the half making three of their last four shots including a layup for Rivera's 11th point of the half [31-29]. UAB took its largest lead of the half with 3:45 to play [34-31].
- Meyer scored the last bucket of the half on a midrange jumper [38-36].
- Both teams went back and forth until UAB went on a 9-2 scoring run with three different scorers. That run ended on an Evan Chatman jumper [60-53].
- UAB went on a four-minute span deep in the second half without hitting a field goal. The Blazers did however hit six free throws during that span [68-64].
- A three-point shot by Jamir Simpson cut into the UAB lead with five minutes to go in the game [68-67].
- The Blazers finished the game on a 12-4 scoring run [83-73].
- UAB stopped UTSA on seven of the final nine possessions of the game.
- Final score: UAB 83, UTSA 73
- UAB stays in Texas until Saturday for a battle against North Texas. Tipoff against the Mean Green is set for 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, January 31.
