UAB Powers Past Florida Atlantic

BIRMINGHAM - There was no shortage of offense for the Blazers on Friday night as UAB (24-29, 8-18) clubbed three home runs to power past Florida Atlantic (35-19, 14-12) by a score of 11-3 on Friday night at Young Memorial Field.
The Blazers had an identical start to Friday's game as they did Thursday's. Four batters in, UAB had two, 2-run home runs, one by Andrew Hunt and another by Camden Hayslip, which put them up 4-0 after one inning of play.
The Green and Gold added another run in the bottom of the 2nd on a Logan Braunschweig RBI double to give UAB a 5-0 lead.
The Blazers added one more run in the bottom of the 3rd on John Paul Head's first career home run which added to their advantage.
The score would hold until the top of the 7th when FAU finally got on the board. Ayden Garcia singled and advanced to third on an error which scored Brando Leroux. On the next pitch, Carter Brady delivered a 2-run home run to the opposite field to cut the UAB lead to 6-3.
UAB got those runs back in the bottom half of the 7th. Jake Merrick sent a 2-run triple off the right center field wall which chased home Head and Nick Hollifield. Then, Todd Clay hit a sacrifice fly to score Merrick to give the Blazers an 11-3 advantage.
Colin Daniel continued his stellar stretch of games as of late. The junior-right hander tossed eight innings, striking out eight, allowing no earned runs and just one walk on 95 pitches. Thomas Ballard picked up the final three outs as the Green and Gold snapped their losing skid which sets up a rubber match with the Owls on Saturday afternoon.
