The two teams combined for 25 runs, 34 hits, and 15 pitchers used. After being down 8-1, the Blazers climbed back and outscored ECU 15-1 from the bottom of the 3rd until the game went final.
East Carolina got on the board first for the third straight day. With the bases loaded and one out, Walker Barron doubled down the left field line to score all three runs and put ECU up 3-0. Later, Austin Irby singled through the right side to score Barron and put the Pirates up 4-0.
In the top half of the 2nd, Dixon Williams beat out a would-be double play ball which scored Braden Burress from third and put the Pirates up 5-0.
The Blazers had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 2nd. Gavin Lewis Jr. hit a slow roller which was good enough for an RBI groundout and cut the deficit to 5-1.
The Pirates added three more runs in the top of the 3rd. Irby hit a 2-run home run to left and Jack Herring singled to put ECU up 8-1.
The bottom of the 3rd started the incredible comeback for the Green and Gold. Wesley Helms got the scoring started with a home run to right center on a full count to cut the lead to 8-2. Two batters later, Camden Hayslip hit a 2-run home run to center to make the score 8-4. The next batter was Nick Hollifield and hit a home run of his own off the batter's eye in straight-away center to cut the lead to three.
ECU would get a run back in the top of the 4th courtesy of Austin Irby's second home run of the game.
The Blazers would answer back in the bottom half of the 4th on a Wesley Helms single to score Logan Braunschweig and cut the deficit to 9-6.
The UAB run continued in the bottom of the 5th. Lewis singled on the first pitch he saw into left field to score Alex Cheeseman from second. With two outs and the bases full of Blazers, Camden Hayslip hit his second home run of the game good enough for a grand slam and put the Blazers in front 11-9. It was Hayslip's second grand slam of the season.
In the bottom of the 6th, Tyler Waugh stepped up with two outs and hit a solo home run of his own over the right field fence and extended the UAB lead to 12-9.
The monster UAB run continued in the bottom of the 7th when Todd Clay hit a 2-run home run that cleared the scoreboard in left and put the Blazers up 14-9. Then, Cheeseman singled to left to score Hayslip and put UAB up 15-9.
The Blazers' final run of the day came on a triple to right center by Wesley Helms to score Braunschweig.
Isaac Warrick earned the win as he turned the game around on the mound for the Blazers as the southpaw tossed 3.2 innings out of the bullpen and allowed just one run. Cole Cheatham picked up the final six outs and UAB won its 20th game of the season on Saturday afternoon by a score of 16-9.
