Blazers Host Memphis in Final Home Series of the Year

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team hosts Memphis in their last home series of the year Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
UAB will play Memphis this weekend and South Florida next weekend to close out the AAC season. 3rd place through 10th place are separated by only three games. Charlotte sits alone in 3rd while Memphis sits alone in 10th. If you want to make the conference tournament you have to finish in 8th place or above. Right now the Blazers are tied for 7th with USF and Rice.
UAB continued its hot hitting streak scoring 10 runs per game over the last four contests. The Blazers fell short to JSU, but came back from an 8-0 deficit to lose 11-8. Logan Braunshweig is leading the team in batting average hitting .327 with 17 stolen bases. UAB ranks 61st in the nation in sacrifice bunts with 25 total. The Blazers also have three shutouts on the season. UAB also ranked 1st in the conference in triples with 12. Blayze Berry is nationally ranked in two categories including ERA and strikeouts. He is ranked 52nd in strikeouts with 78. He is also ranked 19 in ERA with a 2.58 earned run average. Berry and Colin Daniel are ranked 28 in victories with seven wins. Darryl Buggs is ranked 12th in triples with five total.
Scouting Memphis
Memphis is led by Daunte Stuart, hitting .328 with 15 doubles. Jacob Compton is also a huge contributor for the Tigers offense, hitting 13 home runs and 50 RBIs. For the pitching staff, David Warren leads the Tigers in ERA and strikeouts. He will most likely be the Friday starter. Memphis currently has a team ERA of 6.39 compared to UAB with a 5.40. The Tigers are coming off a midweek loss against Arkansas State 7-4. In terms of the AAC, Memphis has two series victories against Rice and last week the Tigers beat Tulane.

Memphis leads the series by a slight margin of 45-42. The last matchup was in 2013, where Memphis won 6-5. The Tigers have won three out of the last four and 10 out of the last 12.
