BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball head coach Andy Kennedy announced the signing of forward Makhi Myles on Wednesday morning.
The Starkville, Mississippi native completed a post-graduate year at Sunrise Christian Academy in Wichita, Kansas where he averaged 14.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game this past season.
"We are excited to have Makhi become a Blazer." Kennedy said, "He adds tremendous length, versatility and shot making to our front court. Makhi originally signed at Wichita State, but after a coaching change, decided to do a prep year at prestigious Sunrise Christian Academy where he continued to develop into a player who we believe will have a tremendous career at UAB."
Myles was named Mississippi 6A Mr. Basketball and first team All-State following his senior season at Starkville High School after averaging 20 points, five rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals per game. He led Starkville to a 24-5 record and a state quarterfinals appearance.
The 6'7" wing also earned All-State honors following his junior season after leading Starkville to a 20-5 record while averaging 22 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks per game.
He was recognized as a Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen selection during both his junior and senior seasons.
Myles was ranked as the No. 2 player in Mississippi in the 2023 class by 247Sports, earning a three-star ranking and reported offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri and Creighton prior to signing with Wichita State.
The Blazers have added three players from the transfer portal this offseason in Iona transfer Greg Gordon, Georgia Southern guard Tyren Moore and Saint Louis forward Bradley Ezewiro while also signing Jaborri McGhee, the No. 3 JUCO player in the nation.
