Blazers Out Hit Jaguars in Midweek Loss

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB baseball team out hit South Alabama 10-4, but lost the contest Wednesday night.

South Alabama scored in the 1st and 2nd inning to take a 2-0 lead, but the Blazers answered in the 2nd with two solo home runs by Gavin Lewis Jr. and Jake Smallwood. This was Smallwood's first start since April 21st. Smallwood went 2-3 with the solo homer.

South Alabama was able to generate two more runs in the 3rd inning. These two runs were on a two run shot by JG Bell. There were a total of three home runs in the small of an inning. South Alabama led 4-2 after the 3rd. Two scoreless innings in the 4th and 5th, made the 6th inning all the more intriguing. Two hit by pitches in a row, put two runners on 1st and 2nd for the Jaguars. Nathan Wood took advantage and laid down a bunt to score Melton on a fielder's choice double play. Once again UAB answered when Mayes White and Smallwood both reached base with a single. Tyler Harrington stepped up and doubled down the left field line to score White.

UAB left eight runners on base and despite creating a few chances in the 7th-9th innings, the Blazers could not score. In the 9th inning, UAB got two runners on in Peyton Puckett and Darryl Buggs.
