TULSA – UAB Softball fell to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 1-3 in the second game of the series, giving them the series clinch to close out the evening. The Blazers fall to a record of 14-19 and 5-6 in the AAC.
UAB totaled three hits and had two errors. Auburn Dupree, Bella Wiggins, and Hannah Miles were the three ladies in Green and Gold tallying base hits.
IN THE INNINGS
The first inning started with two early outs for the Blazers, bringing Bella Wiggins to first on a fielding error from the outfield before advancing to second and putting UAB on base. The Blazers left one on base after a lineout from Lindsey Smith. The Golden Hurricane responded with a leadoff single and reached second on an error from Olivia Valbak. After stealing third, a homer to right field put Tulsa ahead by two runs.
After a HBP and a walk, two Blazers threatened to score but the opportunity was fruitless after a strikeout and lineout in the second. The Golden Hurricane would also be unsuccessful in scoring, leaving a runner on base after two fielder's choices. Entering the top of the third, the Blazers entered the inning with a leadoff bunt single from Auburn Dupree, followed by a sac bunt from Dorsett to place Dupree in scoring position. Bella Wiggins would then come to bat and double before getting tagged out, but not without sending Dupree across home plate.
Tulsa responded with a run in the bottom of the third, sending a single up the right and extending the score margin two after a runner was plated off a Blazer error. Neither team would threaten a run, and the final two innings saw a defensive effort from Tulsa to halt any inching toward home plate. Entering the top of the seventh, Lilly Crowe pinch-hit for Alyssa Aguilar, but lined out. Following Crowe, AJ Kramer pinch hit for Kaily Collett, drawing a walk.
With Ja'nae Wray entering for Allyson Smith, she was tasked with the job of tying the score with Kramer on base but was struck out to close out the game with a 1-3 loss for UAB.
