TULSA – UAB Softball concluded the Tulsa series riding til the last inning but eventually falling to the Golden Hurricane. The Blazers rallied back to get within two but fell to Tulsa 3-5, falling to a record of 14-20 and 5-7 in AAC play.
The Green and Gold totaled nine hits and left ten runners on base.
IN THE INNINGS
The Blazers started slow, with a popup to second from Dupree before Hannah Dorsett collected a single to put UAB on base. She then advanced on a wild pitch to threaten a run before reaching third after a hit from Bella Wiggins. Tulsa responded with a pair of singles, one being an RBI to tally an early run in the first.
UAB responded with a run of their own in the top of the second after two straight singles from Olivia Valbak and Ant Henderson to put Alyssa Aguilar on the plate. She, too, delivered a single, sending Valbak across home to tie at one apiece. The Blazers threatened a run on a passed ball and fielder's choice but were unsuccessful. Defensively, the Blazers kept Tulsa at bay, leaving a runner on base after a fielder's choice.
The third inning was all Tulsa, with a pair of singles to put two runners on base, followed by a HBP. With the bases loaded, Tulsa dropped a triple to plate three runners, giving the Golden Hurricane a four-run lead. A scoreless fourth inning went by before UAB responded with a scoring rally of their own in the fifth after a walk placed Bella Wiggins on first. Lindsey Smith approached the plate before delivering a two-run shot to left field to put UAB back in it, 3-5.
The Blazers left two on base, bringing the tally up to eight runners. Tulsa would do the same, leaving two on base in the bottom of the fifth. The Green and Gold entered the sixth with hot bats after a single from Hannah Miles and a sac bunt from Auburn Dupree put UAB in scoring position. Hannah Dorsett would follow after a fielder's choice, but the team did not capitalize. A three-up-three-down in the bottom of the sixth gave UAB one more chance to score but would be unsuccessful, falling 3-5.
