BIRMINGHAM – UAB Softball fell to Mississippi State in five innings on Wednesday afternoon. The Blazers tallied three hits and had two defensive miscues throughout the game at Mary Bowers Field.

IN THE INNINGS
The inning began with the Bulldogs tallying up three early hits in the first inning, before sending a 3RBI homer to left field to put MSU up three. Another base hit sent two runners across home to put the Bulldogs up five runs. The Blazers responded with a single from Bella Wiggins in the bottom but left her on base to close out the opening inning. Mississippi State added four more runs in the second, putting UAB down nine.

The Bulldogs continued the scoring rally with five more runs in the third before a pitching change arose for UAB. Caroline McLendon entered the circle for the Blazers, halting the hitting momentum and bringing the game to the bottom of the third. The Green and Gold were able to get Kaily Collett on base but were unable to score.

With the Blazers down 14, McLendon only allowed one hit in the fourth. The Blazers were able to hold Mississippi State to just two on base after an unassisted groundout to Alyssa Aguilar closed out the top half. The Blazers responded in the bottom of the fourth with a base hit from Olivia Valbak but were not able to score.

McLendon continued to show her pitching skill through to the end. The Blazer defense also flashed their prowess with a double play to conclude the top of the fifth. The Green and Gold went hitless and scoreless in the fifth, closing out the game in five 0-14.

IN THE BOX

UAB finished the day with three hits. Bella Wiggins, Olivia Valbak, and Kaily Collett were the three Blazers with base hits.
The Blazers held MSU scoreless through 2.1 innings. Caroline McLendon only allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
