UAB Suffers Walk-off Loss at Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The UAB softball team (12-12) suffered a 6-5 walk-off loss at Florida Gulf Coast (17-10) on Wednesday night in Fort Myers.
The Blazers went ahead 1-0 in the third with an RBI from Lauren Brock, then surged ahead 5-0 with four runs in the fourth on an RBI single from Hannah Miles and a bases clearing triple from Brock.
However, FGCU answered with one run in the fifth and four in the sixth to tie the game entering the final frame. The Eagles retired UAB in order in the top of the seventh which set the stage for the bottom of the inning.
FGCU's Avery Viancos led off with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. A groundout advanced her to third, and Annalyn Duncan provided the walk-off hit with a single through the left side to complete the comeback.
Brock matched her career high with four RBI, but the Blazers were out-hit by the Eagles 15-4 in the contest.
UAB remains in Florida this weekend to face Florida Atlantic for a three-game series in Boca Raton.
