Softball Heads to Sunshine State for Week of Games

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB softball team heads south this week for a midweek game at Florida Gulf Coast, followed by a three-game series at Florida Atlantic this weekend.
The Blazers (12-11, 3-0 AAC) will face FGCU on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Fort Myers. UAB then travels to a Boca Raton for a three-game series beginning Friday evening and concluding Sunday.
UAB is coming off a sweep over UTSA to open AAC play. The Blazers scored 20 runs in the three games combined and only allowed five defensively.
Lindsey Smith and Leigha Kirby were both named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll in leading UAB to the sweep.
Smith batted 3-for-7 with a home run and two doubles, while scoring six runs and carrying an on-base percentage of .600.
Kirby pitched a complete game 2-hitter in the series opener and had a span of retiring 17-straight batters while striking out four to pick up her fourth win of the season.
The Eagles are 16-10 overall which includes wins over No. 16 Florida State, Pitt, Boston College and South Florida. Wednesday's game can be seen on ESPN+, while live stats are also available by clicking here.
Florida Atlantic is 20-6 on the season and most recently took 2-of-3 from Wichita State to open conference play. The Owls play a midweek against Indiana on Wednesday before hosting the Blazers. Check back on the schedule page of uabsports.com this weekend for links to watch and follow live stats.
