Q+A With UAB MBB's Marquis Hargrove

BIRMINGHAM – Marquis Hargrove is a junior guard on the UAB men's basketball team from Sacramento, California. He transferred to Birmingham after beginning his career at Arizona Western with teammate Yaxel Lendeborg. Hargrove averaged 14.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season and with look to make an impact with the Blazers.
What made you choose UAB?
I chose UAB because of its winning culture. I wanted to be somewhere that will push me to get better and challenge me every day.
Which game are you most looking forward to on the schedule?
I would probably say the game I'm looking forward to the most is FAU, because they went so far in the tournament last year. We will get a chance to see what we are made of.
What is your go-to pregame meal?
My pregame meal is a sandwich from Subway. Italian BLT.
Who is your favorite musical artist?
My favorite artist has to be Drake.
Who is the player that you model your game after the most?
I wouldn't be able to pick just one person I model my game after, I watch a lot of players like Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard, and Stephen Curry.
How would you describe your game?
I like to do everything on the floor, defense and offense. I like to fill the stat sheet.
Which one of your teammates are you expecting a big year from?
I'm expecting a big year from everyone this year, a lot of us have something to prove this year.
What is it like playing for Andy Kennedy?
I like playing for AK. His attention to detail is sharp, and he wants to pressure the ball and play fast. I like the freedom he allows us to play with.
Why do you wear No. 15?
I chose the number 15 because I used to wear it back when I was a kid because of Carmelo Anthony, since he just retired, I decided to wear it.
What is it like playing at Arizona Western and UAB with Yaxel Lendeborg?
Playing with Yax at Arizona Western and now here, is like playing with a brother, we know how to get each other going on the court and we play well off of each other. We both want to win when the ball tips.
