Men's Soccer Finishes with Draw at Northern Kentucky

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - UAB Men's Soccer (0-0-1) played to a 1-1 draw on the road in the opening match of the season against Northern Kentucky (0-0-1). The Blazers played with only 10 men for the final 22 minutes of the match and the Norse were able to take advantage.
Neither side had many chances in the first half with only five total shots between the two teams. However, the Blazers jumped in front with 10 minutes remaining in the first half when sophomore Zsombor Kalnoki-Kis found freshman Isaac Calderon for his first collegiate goal in his first collegiate match.
UAB took the 1-0 advantage into the half and remained in control for the early part of the second period. The momentum shifted in the second half when Alan Melendez was shown a red card and the Blazers were forced to play with 10 men the rest of the way.
The Norse quickly took advantage and tied the match at 1-1 in the 71st minute on a Nico Stoddard goal after an NKU corner kick.
Jack Hudson was able to keep Northern Kentucky at bay the rest of the way, making three crucial saves. Hudson faced 12 shots in the second half, including seven over the final 22 minutes.

The Blazers will travel to Atlanta on Monday to face Georgia State on the road. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
