SERIES HISTORY
Georgia State leads the all-time series 13-9-1 and the Panthers have won each of the last four meetings. The Blazers last win in the series came in 2018 in Birmingham. UAB has not won in Atlanta since 2002.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BLAZERS
The Blazers finished with a draw in their first match of the season at Northern Kentucky, 1-1. Isaac Calderon scored the first goal of his collegiate career, assisted by Zsombor Kalnoki-Kis, to put the Blazers up in the first half. Following a UAB red card in the second half, NKU found a way to equalize.
HUDSON'S BRILLIANCE IN GOAL
Graduate student Jack Hudson returns for this second season as the Blazers' primary goalkeeper. Hudson was recognized as a second team All-AAC performer last season. He led the league with 60 saves while finishing second in both goals against average (1.36) and save percentage (.759). Hudson earned AAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors for his performance against then-No. 18/12 Tulsa. In the Blazers' match against then-No. 1 Clemson, Hudson made a career-high 10 saves before following up that performance against the high-powered attack of No. 23 SMU with eight saves.
SOPHOMORE BREAKOUT CANDIDATES
Benedikt Erhard was recognized by Top Drawer Soccer as a potential breakout candidate for the Blazers. He finished the year with a pair of assists. Fellow sophomore Mathias Love Groth was named to the AAC All-Rookie Team a year ago and will look to build upon that performance. Zsombor Kalnoki-Kis is also returning after scoring one goal and recording an assist in 2022.
FRESHMAN MAKING AN EARLY IMPACT
Isaac Calderon was able to make his mark early in his UAB career. The freshman from North Las Vegas, Nev. put one in the back of the net in his collegiate debut. Calderon was ranked as the No. 64 player in Top Drawer Soccer's recruiting rankings for the 2023 class.
