UAB MBB Adds JUCO Guard Marquis Hargrove

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball added JUCO guard Marquis Hargrove to the 2023 class, Andy Kennedy announced on Monday. Hargrove joins Arizona Western teammate Yaxel Lendeborg at UAB where the duo led the Matadors to a NJCAA DI Region I title as the team's top two scorers.
"Marquis is a great addition to our program." Kennedy added, "His ability to make shots and create opportunities for others through his feel for the game will be a tremendous addition to our back court."
Hargrove averaged 14.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the floor. The Sacramento, California native scored in double figures in each of his last 10 games, including four 20-point efforts. He finished second on the team in scoring, trailing only fellow UAB signee Yaxel Lendeborg.
The sophomore guard earned Second Team All-ACCAC honors and Second Team All-Region recognition after leading the league in steals at 1.9 per game. He and Lendeborg combined for 41 points in the Matadors' Region title game. Following the season he earned an invitation to the West Coast Elite JUCO All-American game.
In addition to Hargrove, the Blazers have added three other players from the JUCO ranks, including Coleman, Vasquez and Hargrove's Arizona Western teammate Yaxel Lendeborg. UAB has also signed North Alabama transfer Daniel Ortiz and Ole Miss transfer James White as well as the lone high school signee in the class, KJ Satterfield.
