UAB Draws Third Walk-Off in Win Over Alabama

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Blazers (12-24) defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide (26-12) by a score of 4-3 in walk-off fashion after 11 innings of play on Tuesday, April 18 at Regions Field. Henry Hunter hit a hard line-drive to first that bounced off the fielder's glove which brought in Logan Braunschweig to secure the win for the Blazers.
After two scoreless innings, the Crimson Tide got on the board first with a two-run home run in the third. UAB responded in the fifth after a sacrifice ground out drove in a run to cut Alabama's lead to one followed by a bunt single that allowed a runner to cross home plate which tied the game up. UAB took a 3-2 lead in the seventh, but Alabama tied the game in the ninth after a solo home run which resulted in the game going into extra innings. Both teams went scoreless in the tenth, until the Blazers walked it off on an error that allowed the winning run to cross in the eleventh.
Braxton Shelton delt a career-high of eight innings pitched during Tuesday's win and allowed three runs – earned – on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts through 31 batters faced. Tyler O'Clair relieved Shelton after he faced one batter in the ninth. O'Clair spent two innings on the mound while he allowed zero runs on one hit before Christian Clack (2-1) came on in the eleventh. Clack picked up his second win of the season after he threw a shutout inning. The pitching staff threw five three up, three down innings including three consecutive from Shelton.
The Blazers' offense reached base 14 times including John Marc Mullins (2-for-4) who reached on two singles. Tyler Waugh and Logan Braunschweig both drew walks and singled while Christian Hall, Mayes White and Gavin Lewis Jr. collected a single each. Braunschweig scored two of UAB's four runs including the winning run in the eleventh. Isaiah Mack and Lewis Jr. scored the other two runs for the Blazers after Mack reached on a fielder's choice and Lewis Jr. laid down a bunt single then reached third on an error.

The Blazers will swing back into Conference USA play on Friday, April 21 as they are set to travel to Charlotte, N.C. for a weekend series against the 49ers.
