UAB Softball Drops Game Two Against No. 10 Florida Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The Blazers concluded day two of the Florida series with a 10-0 loss in six innings to the Gators. UAB's season record now falls to 10-8, and the Green and Gold now sit on a two-game losing streak as they round out the second day of the weekend competition.

Starting off the first inning, the Blazers and Gators had a slow build-up similar to the Friday game, where UF's Echols delivered a single to second base to grant an unearned run for Falby. The Blazers held the Gators to only two runs throughout innings one through four and left four ladies in the Green and Gold on base through those innings.

Entering the top of the fourth, the Blazers continued to hold down their defensive efforts before a wild pitch from Leigha Kirby allowed a Gator to score. The lead increased from 2-0 to 3-0, but Kirby delivered another strikeout to halt the potential two-out rally.

Entering the final two innings, Florida delivered two runs in the top of the fifth, one being a homer, to push the lead to five runs. The Blazers looked to respond but were unable to capitalize. Entering the top of the sixth, the Gators had back-to-back homers, followed by three RBIs to put the score at 10-0.

The Blazers entered Cassady Greenwood to pinch hit at the bottom of the sixth with two outs. Olivia Valbak sat patiently at first base after reaching on a fielding error from the second baseman, but Greenwood struck out swinging to end the game in six innings.
