UAB Drops Friday Matchup Against MTSU in Five Innings

MURFREESBORO – UAB Softball concluded the first game of the MTSU series with an 8-0 loss to the Blue Raiders in five innings. The Blazers' record now sits at 11-14 overall and 1-3 in C-USA Standings.
UAB finished with six hits on Friday night at Blue Raider Stadium.

Entering the first inning, the Blazers started with Lauren Brock grounding out to the Blue Raiders' third baseman, followed by Bella Wiggins with a flyball out to left field. Sierra Frazier returned to the order, but grounded out to the shortstop to have the Green and Gold finish the first inning with no runs and no hits.
The Blazers and Blue Raiders went scoreless before the bottom of the second, where MTSU scored six runs. An RBI double from the Blue Raiders' Garcia tallied the first run, followed by a sacrifice fly by Blevins to give Garcia the run. UAB had two defensive mishaps resulting in opportunities for MTSU to score. The Blue Raiders led 6-0 at the conclusion of the second.
UAB went scoreless in the third, with one left on base after a single and advance on an error from Hannah Miles. The Green and Gold held the Blue Raiders scoreless, allowing only one hit in the third, but found themselves giving up two more runs in the following inning.
MTSU's Echols doubled to left center, sending a Blue Raider across the Plate. Tepe also delivered an RBI single to give Echols the run to activate the run-rule if UAB doesn't score. In the fifth, the Blazers provided two more hits and a fielder's choice to threaten a run, but it was fruitless as Bella Wiggins and Sierra Frazier were both out to conclude the game in five.
