Jordan "Jelly" Walker Named to Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watchlist

BIRMINGHAM – UAB men's basketball guard Jordan Walker was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced on Wednesday. Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2022-23 season thus far, the list comprises of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor.
The Long Island, N.Y. native earned Conference USA player of the Year honors during the 2021-22 season while averaging 20.3 points and 4.9 assists per game, however Walker has elevated his game to another level this season.
Halfway through the regular season, "Jelly" currently leads the nation with 25.2 points per game while also distributing 4.7 assists per game. Walker is shooting .426 from the field and .403 from beyond-the-arc.
He has put together four 30-point performances this season, including 38 points in the Blazers' season opener against Alabama State, the most ever by a UAB player in the first game of the season. "Jelly" has scored 25 points or more in nine of his 13 appearances this season.
Against Georgia in the Sunshine Slam final, Walker scored 31 points to go with six rebounds, five assists and five steals to earn the tournament's MVP honors. Later that week, he would also earn Conference USA Player of the Week recognition for the fourth time in his career.
In the UAB record books, he has tied his coach, Andy Kennedy, for the most 30+ point efforts as a Blazer with seven. Midway through his second season at UAB, he has moved into sixth for the most three-pointers made with 174. Walker surpassed 1,000 points as a Blazer on Saturday against UTSA. He is the fastest UAB player to ever reach that mark, doing so in only 47 games.
