Zuniga Named Conference USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year

BIRMINGHAM – Conference USA has announced that Asha Zuniga has been named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
The senior captain is coming off a 2021 season where she was named Third Team All-Conference and started all 19 matches, logged a team-high 1,803 minutes played. She helped the backline record five shutouts and hold opponents to a 1.34 goals against average.
Additionally, Zuniga earned a spot on the Preseason All-Conference team.
"I truly believe Asha proved herself last year in our conference that she is one of the best defensive players and I am truly grateful that our coaches recognized her efforts and ability," said head coach Erica Demers. "We have some great talent in C-USA and I know as a team we can't wait to get started in our final season with C-USA."
The 2022 regular season begins Aug. 18 against Chattanooga at PNC Field. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
The 2022-23 Gold Card for $65 here. The 2021-22 Gold Card will get you access to all home events for Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Volleyball, Women's Basketball, Softball, and Baseball (Regions Field & Young Memorial). This card is not valid for Conference USA or NCAA Championship events.
