BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer had a player notch a weekly honor, as officials from the league office announced on Monday that Abbey Burns earned Offensive Player of the Week.
Burns played a major role in the 3-2 win at North Texas on Thursday. The senior midfielder assisted Lailah Stewart for the Blazers first goal in the 16th minute. Burns then scored a goal of her own in the 59th minute, which was her first goal of the season. Caitlin Keeling scored 27 minutes later to make the score 3-0, again with Burns providing the assist.
The win gave UAB a spot in the American Conference Championship as the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 seeded UTSA. The conference championship will be played in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. on Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. CT.
