2021-22 Men’s Basketball Commercial Wins National Gold ADDY

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's basketball team's 2021-22 commercial was named a National Gold ADDY Award winner on Friday morning.
The American Advertising Federation tabbed only 52 National Gold ADDY Award winners out of more than 25,000 entries. The 2021-22 UAB men's basketball commercial was produced by Champ Creative Co.
The commercial launched on Nov. 4 has garnered an impressive 947,000 impressions, 26,144 engagements and 141,100 views on Twitter. It also included comments and quote tweets from college basketball personalities Jay Bilas and Jimmy Dykes and celebrity Kenan Thompson, whose brother, Kerwin Thompson, starred in the 1-minute, 58-second video.
The commercial starts by celebrating UAB's extensive men's basketball success including highlights from key moments in UAB basketball history. It then transitions into a message of a resurgence of the UAB program under alumnus and head coach Andy Kennedy, who helped re-establish the "Bartow Standard" with UAB's sixth conference tournament title and 16th trip to the NCAA Tournament in March.
Jordan Walker, Trey Jemison, Tavin Lovan and KJ Buffen, all key contributors to UAB's Conference USA Tournament championship run in March, will return for the Blazers in 2022-23.
UAB also added six new Blazers to the 2022-23 roster, five of which were from the transfer portal. Eric Gaines (LSU), Javian Davis (Mississippi State), Ledarrius and Ty Brewer (ETSU), and Tyler Bertram (Binghamton) comprise the five student-athletes UAB and Kennedy have added through the transfer portal since March 30. The Blazers will also add in-state high school standout Efrem "Butta" Johnson to the 2022-23 roster.
