UAB Baseball Claims Series with 8-6 Win at Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The UAB baseball team improved to 21-9 overall and 7-4 in league play with a 8-6 victory over Florida Atlantic to claim the series victory on Saturday at the FAU Baseball Stadium.

Center fielder Darryl Buggs led the victory by going 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored. Logan Braunschweig also had a great night by going 3-for-4 at the dish and led the team with six putouts in left field.

"Our guys showed a lot of fight today," said head coach Casey Dunn. "I'm really proud of the way we kept answering and counter punching today. To win a series against a great program on the road is huge."

Trailing 1-0 after one, the Blazers jumped out to a 3-1 lead off the bat of a two-run blast from Buggs and an RBI single from Christian Hall in the top of the third.

FAU (20-12, 6-5 C-USA) drew even in the bottom of the third on a solo home run and an RBI single, but UAB then surged ahead in the in the top half of the fourth with another three run inning.

UAB's first two batter of the inning reached base, and a double from Brandon Willoughby scored Joseph Kiel. Buggs would then score on a wild pitch. The third run of the inning came on an RBI groundout from Hall.

The Owls once again responded with three runs in the fifth to tie the game at 6-6 powered by a two-run homer, but UAB's bullpen would shut FAU down for the remainder of the game.

UAB scored the game winning run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Henry Hunter which scored Hall, and added an insurance run in the eighth with an RBI double to right from Caleb Floyd.

Thomas Ballard (5-1) picked up the win, while Collin Taylor recorded his eighth save of the season. Starting pitcher Tyler O'Clair went four innings and allowed four hits and four runs.
