Floyd Leads UAB to 4-3 Victory Over FAU in Series Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Right fielder Caleb Floyd drove in all four runs as the UAB baseball team Florida Atlantic 4-3 on Friday night in game one of a three game series at the FAU Baseball Stadium.
Floyd opened the game with a 3-run homer in the top of the first inning and added an RBI sac fly in the top of the ninth, while ultimately proved to be the game winning run.
In between Floyd's big night at the plate, Jackson Reynolds gave the Blazers a great outing on the mound, going 7.2 innings and allowing six hit and two runs while striking out five. Reynolds is now 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA.
"What a great win on a Friday night," head coach Casey Dunn said. "FAU is a very good team and our guys battled tonight. Jackson Reynolds was fantastic and Caleb Floyd delivered two big swings to lead us."
The win improves UAB's record to 20-9 overall and 6-4 in league play. The loss drops FAU to 20-10 overall and 6-4 in C-USA.
In the first inning, Floyd's third home run of the season drove in Josh Sears who walked and Christina Hall who singled, both with two outs.
FAU's Dylan Goldstein drove in two runs in the fourth with a two-run homer, cutting the lead to one.
Once again, The heart of UAB's lineup in Sears, Hall and Floyd produced the game winning run in the ninth as Sears was hit by pitch and then advanced to third on a single from Hall. Floyd's sac fly brought home Sears.
C-USA's leading hitter Nolan Schanuel hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth for FAU, but Collin Taylor then got three flyouts to pick up his seventh save of the season.
Hall, who entered the game as the league's second leading batter, finished 2-for-4 and raised his average to .414.
