UAB Softball Goes Down in Final Game of Louisiana Tech Series

BIRMINGHAM- The UAB softball team dropped the final game of a three game series versus Louisiana Tech this afternoon. The Blazers tallied eight hits and no errors on the day, but were unable to get a timely run, and couldn't secure the win.
The Blazers (21-21, 9-8) began the day strong, with an RBI single from Sierra Frazier. UAB got two more runners on base, but couldn't bring them in, and Louisiana Tech answered with a sac-fly to even the game at 1-1 at the end of the first. After UAB left Olivia Valbak stranded on first in their next turn at bat, the Lady Techsters (32-17, 12-6) took the lead in the bottom of the second with two RBI singles. The Blazers got a double from Sierra Frazier at the top of the third, but couldn't get any runs. LA Tech got two on base in the bottom of the third, but the Blazer defense held firm.
After a scoreless fourth inning, UAB scored pinch hitter Jaden Goodwin on a single RBI from Bella Wiggins that cut the Louisiana Tech lead to one, and then forced Tech to go three up, three down to end the fifth. UAB fought to tie or take the lead, but left two runners stranded on second and third in the top of the sixth. After the Blazer defense prevented LA Tech from scoring any insurance runs, the Blazers had one last shot to avoid a series sweep, but went three up, three down to end the game at 3-2.
Sarah Cespedes (9-6) was given the pitching loss, after striking out two batters in three innings. Sierra Frazier recorded three hits in three at-bats.
The Blazers will be in action at home this weekend for a three game series versus North Texas.
