BIRMINGHAM – Coming off its second win this season over Alabama, the UAB baseball team is set for a three-game weekend series at Charlotte. The series begins Friday night at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
UAB enters the series at 23-13 overall and 8-7 in C-USA. Charlotte, who was an NCAA Tournament a year ago, is 20-16 overall and 5-10 in league play.
With five remaining Conference USA series left, the Blazers are currently tied for sixth place overall at 8-7 and could take a big step in separating themselves from Charlotte, who is in eighth, by winning the series this weekend. The top eight teams at the end of the regular season will head to Hattiesburg for the Conference USA Tournament.
Powered by Matthew Golda's grand slam, the Blazers topped Alabama 7-6 last Tuesday in Tuscaloosa. Both of UAB's wins over the Crimson Tide this season have been by one run, and the Blazers are an impressive 11-4 in one-run games this year.
UAB's starting rotation remains the same this weekend with Jackson Reynolds (2-3, 2.70 ERA) taking the mound on Friday, followed by Tyler O'Clair (1-2, 5.89 ERA) on Saturday and Brooks Walton (5-2, 4.80 ERA) on Sunday. Walton is tied for second in Conference USA with five wins amongst those who meet the minimum for innings pitched (UAB's Thomas Ballard also has five wins this year with 29.0 innings pitched).
Christian Hall (.389) paces four Blazers who are batting over .300 and has reached base safely in 28-straight games. Additionally, Logan Braunschweig (.319), John Marc Mullins (.303) and Henry Hunter (.301) enter the series batting over .300. Braunschweig has come on strong as of late and has moved up into the two-hole hitter for the Blazers.
