UAB Prepares for Conference USA Championship

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team begins its quest for its first Conference USA title since the 1996 season when the Blazers take on WKU on Thursday afternoon in the First Round of the C-USA Championship. Match time is 9 a.m. The four day event runs from April 21-24 and will take place in Murfreesboro, Tenn. hosted by Middle Tennessee.
UAB LATELY
The Blazers (11-10, 3-2 C-USA) are the No. 8 seed and are coming off a 4-3 victory over Middle Tennessee on April 16.
WKU LATELY
The Lady Toppers (18-8, 2-1 C-USA) are the No. 9 seed and have won five straight matches dating back to April 2.
THE SERIES AGAINST WKU
The teams have met five times, with UAB winning four of the matches. This will be the first match between the two school at a neutral site.
LAST TIME AGAINST WKU
The Blazers defeated the Lady Toppers 6-1 on March 14.
UAB IN THE CONFERENCE USA CHAMPIONSHIP
Since C-USA's formation in 1996, the Blazers have a 23-25 overall record in the tournament. The Blazers have gone to the championship match four times – 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2001 – taking home the title in 1996.
