BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball team has a huge weekend as the Blazers host defending Conference USA Champion Old Dominion at Young Memorial Field this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Blazers (21-11, 7-5 C-USA) have an opportunity to make a statement against ODU (23-8, 6-6 C-USA). UAB is coming off a heartbreaking 6-5 loss in extra innings at defending National Champion Mississippi State, while ODU just defeated No. 8 Virginia 9-2 on Tuesday.
UAB has won three of four C-USA series this weekend and sits in a tie for third place in the league standings. ODU is one game behind the Blazers but has the second most overall wins in Conference USA.
Christian Hall is in the running for Conference USA Player of the Year as he enters the weekend with a .405 batting average, just one point behind the league leader Nolan Schanuel (.406) of Florida Atlantic. Hall enters the series with a 12-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 24 straight games.
UAB will keep with its pitching rotation of Jackson Reynolds, Tyler O'Clair and Brooks Walton this weekend. Reynolds is putting together an excellent season as he owns a 2.61 ERA in eight starts and went 7.2 innings in his last start and picked up the win at FAU.
Thursday's game is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch, with Friday beginning at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Friday's game will air on ESPN+, while the other two games can be seen on CUSA.tv.
