UAB Set to Play in 2022 Sunshine Slam

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's basketball team will compete in the 2022 Sunshine Slam on Nov. 21-22 in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The Blazers are included in a four-team field called the "Beach Bracket," comprising Georgia, South Florida and Saint Joseph's. Opening round matchups will be announced later this spring or over the summer.
Another group of four schools – Albany, Austin Peay, Bucknell and Presbyterian – will compete in the "Ocean Bracket" in Daytona Beach. UAB will host one of these four schools before traveling to the Sunshine State for matchups against its own field of competitors.
The Blazers will participate in a multiple-team event (MTE) over Thanksgiving week for the second straight year under head coach Andy Kennedy. UAB went 1-1 in the Las Vegas Invitational this past season, defeating New Mexico 86-73 in the opening round before falling 63-61 in the Las Vegas Invitational title game to San Francisco. The Dons and Blazers both made it to the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
UAB, the defending Conference USA Tournament champions, won a program-record 27 games in 2021-22 and made its 16th NCAA Tournament appearance in the 44-year history of the program. The Blazers finished the 2021-22 season ranked top-10 nationally in five major statistical categories, including fourth in total steals (336), sixth in scoring margin (13.6), sixth in scoring offense (80.3), seventh in steals per game (9.6) and 10th in turnover margin (4.3).
Georgia enters its first year with former Florida head coach Mike White leading the program. White, who led the Gators to four NCAA Tournament appearances, holds a 243-128 overall record between his time at Louisiana Tech and Florida.
Future American Athletic Conference opponent South Florida finished the 2021-22 season with an 8-23 record. Second-year freshman Caleb Murphy, USF's leading scorer this past season with 11.4 points per game, returns for the Bulls for the 2022-23 season.
Saint Joseph's expects to return three starters, including Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selection Erik Reynolds II. Reynolds II, a rising sophomore, averaged 12.1 points per game to go along with 68 assists and 24 steals as a freshman.

Fans who commit to their season tickets by April 30 will receive a commemorative Conference USA Champions banner as a token of appreciation for their support. The commemorative banner features a customized Conference USA Championship logo, and each season-ticket account that purchases by the end of April will receive this exclusive gift leading into the upcoming men's basketball season.

The public season-ticket price is set at $275, while season tickets for UAB employees and alumni are available for $245 per seat.
