UAB Opens Conference Play With 6-1 Victory Over WKU

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team opened its Conference USA schedule with 6-1 victory over WKU on Monday afternoon.
With the win, the Blazers improve to 9-5 overall on the season.
UAB opened the scoring by winning the doubles point. The Blazers got victories on Courts 2 and 3 with Vanessa Mellynchuk and Enya Ratkic winning 6-3 before Adela Wasserbauerova and Mackenzie White clinched the point 7-5.
In singles, UAB won five of the six matches. Wasserbauerova (Court 1 - 6-4, 7-6), Clarke (Court 2 – 6-3, 6-4), Mellynchuk (Court 5 – 7-5,6-0) and Maggie White (Court 6 – 6-0, 6-3) all won in straight sets. Jana Hecking on 10-7 in a breaker on Court 4.
Up next is No. 15 Florida on March 16. This match was added earlier today, replacing the South Florida match. The Blazers and Gators begin an 8am CT/9 am ET at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
