UAB Softball Collects Another Shutout, Defeats FIU 8-0

MIAMI- UAB softball got the win today at Felsburg Field in Miami, 8-0.

The Blazers (13-9, 1-0) took a quick lead on an RBI triple from Sierra Frazier at the top of the 1^st. For the rest of the 1^stinning, and all of the 2^nd, UAB held a 1-0 lead.

At the top of the third, the Blazers added to their lead with a Jolie Readeaux double that brought home Sierra Frazier and Tyler Armistead.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers (14-11, 0-1) got two runners on base, but the UAB defense held firm and kept FIU off the scoreboard.

At the top of the fifth, the Blazers heated up again. A Sierra Frazier single brought in Tyler Armistead, and a Lilly Crowe sac fly brought home Faith Hegh to make it 5-0 in favor of UAB.

After quickly retiring the FIU batter in the bottom of the fifth, UAB got up to bat with a chance to add to their lead. The Blazers did just that, via a Faith Hegh double that brought home Armistead and Bella Wiggins, and another double from Sierra Frazier who batted in Hegh. FIU had their final chance to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth, and seemed ready to do so with two runners on base. The Panthers couldn't bring their runners home however, thanks to Sarah Cespedes, who struck out the final FIU batter to end the game with a final score of 8-0.

UAB hit three doubles on the day, all of which led to runs scored. Sarah Cespedes (7-1) notched another win from the circle, and recorded two strikeouts. Sierra Frazier recorded a hit in all three of her at-bats. FIU managed just four hits on the day, compared to the Blazer's 10.

UAB will face FIU again tomorrow, at 6:00 p.m. in Miami.

Saturday's game will be aired live on C-USA TV.
