Softball Defeats FIU 13-1

MIAMI- The UAB softball team secured a run-rule victory versus FIU in the second game of a three game series. The Blazers scored multiple runs in every inning of the contest.
The Blazers (14-9, 2-0) started quickly for the second game in a row, scoring first on a Sierra Frazier single RBI, and then on a Jolie Readeaux double that brought in Frazier and Faith Hegh.
At the top of the second inning, UAB added to its lead with a Tyler Armistead double that brought home Olivia Valbak, and a Faith Hegh single that got Armistead across home plate.
Holding a 5-0 lead, the Blazers withstood a momentum shift when the Panthers (14-12, 0-2) got two hits in the bottom of the 2nd, one of which gave FIU its first run of the weekend.
In the top of the third, UAB got right back to scoring, thanks to a home run from Lindsey Smith that also brought in Sophie Page. FIU got the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, but the Blazer defense held firm and allowed no runs, to hold a 7-1 lead.
Batting again in the top of the fourth, UAB continued to add to its lead with a Sierra Frazier home run that brought home Tyler Armistead. The Panthers got two runners on base in the bottom of the fourth, but were unable to get them home, and the score read 9-1.
In the top of the fifth, the Blazers got their bats going yet again, with Bella Wiggins getting Sophie Page home on an RBI single, Lindsey Smith advancing home on a wild pitch, and a Faith Hegh double that scored Bella Wiggins and Lauren Brock.
FIU had their final chance to score in the bottom of the fifth, and got a runner on base, but Bailey Tindell struck out the last Panther batter to end the game 13-1.
The Blazers recorded 12 hits as a team. Tyler Armistead, Faith Hegh, and Jolie Readeaux each got a double. Sierra Frazier and Lindsey Smith hit a home run each. Hegh and Frazier were each credited with three RBIs. Bailey Tindell (1-4) was given the win, she tallied four strikeouts, and no runs allowed in two innings of relief.
UAB will conclude its three game series versus FIU tomorrow in Miami. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. ET.
