UAB Notches 4-1 Win Over Southern Miss to Conclude Weekend in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The UAB men's tennis team finished its weekend in Hattiesburg with a 4-1 Conference USA victory over Southern Miss. The Blazers opened the match with a win in doubles before notching three singles triumphs to secure the conference victory.
UAB (3-5) split its pair of matches in Hattiesburg, dropping its opening match to Lamar 5-2 on Saturday.
UAB 4, SOUTHERN MISS 1
The Blazers won the doubles point to open Sunday's match at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. On court one, Michal Lusovsky and Vojtech Podzemny posted a 6-2 win before Roman Postolka and Nikola Puric broke a 1-1 deadlock with a 6-4 victory on court three.
Lusovsky, Postolka and Podzemny all earned victories in straight sets to clinch the match for the Blazers. Podzemny quickly gave the Blazers a 2-0 edge with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court three.
After Southern Miss earned a win on court six, Lusovsky then defeated Southern Miss ace Dhruv Sunish 6-4, 6-2 on court one to put the Blazers within just one match of an overall team victory. Postolka sealed the Blazers' win with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four.
Noah Malige and Thanos Spyropoulos' matches went unfinished on Sunday. Malige was up 6-4, 5-5 in his match on court five, while Spyropoulos trailed 7-6, 2-1 on court two.
Sunday's win extends UAB's all-time series advantage over Southern Miss to 17-9.
LAMAR 5, UAB 2
After dropping the doubles point, Postolka and Malige earned straight-set wins on courts four and five. Postolka earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory, while Malige made it back-to-back matches with a win with a 6-1, 7-6 win over Lamar's Brandon Do.
Lusovsky and Nikola Puric each dropped competitive three-set matches in Saturday's matchup. Luskovky opened his match on court one with a 7-5 win, but Lamar's Daniel Sancho Arbizu responded with 6-3 and 6-4 wins in sets two and three, respectively. Puric also opened his match with an opening-set victory before falling 6-4, 3-6, 1-6 to Lamar's Martin Garcia-Ripoll Ore.

UAB will return to Birmingham for its first home match since Jan. 30 with a matchup against ETSU on Saturday, Feb. 26. First serve at the Lakeshore Tennis Courts is set for 2 p.m.
