UAB Drops Pair of Weekend Matches

BIRMINGHAM and ATLANTA – The UAB men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches this weekend, falling 4-2 to ETSU on Saturday and 4-0 to Georgia State on Sunday.
UAB (3-7) earned two singles victories in its match against ETSU, while freshman Nir Vodavoz made his UAB debut in doubles play.
ETSU 4, UAB 2
After dropping a match on court one in doubles play, Nikola Puric and Roman Postolka earned a 6-2 victory on court three to set up a winner-take-all matchup on court two for the doubles point. ETSU's Dimitri Badra and Hugo Lobo would seal the doubles point for the Buccaneers with a 6-2 win on court two.
Postolka would even Saturday's match at 1-1 with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court four, quickly dispatching ETSU's Thiago Pernas in straight sets. ETSU would then respond with a win in straight sets on court five to take a 2-1 lead, but Blazers' ace Michal Lusovsky tied the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court one.
ETSU would clinch Saturday's match with victories on courts two and three. UAB's Vojtech Podzemny opened his match with a 6-4 win on court three, but Lobo would rally from a set down to notch a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win to secure the win for the Buccaneers.
GEORGIA STATE 4, UAB 0
Georgia State won the doubles point to open Sunday's match. UAB's Nikola Puric and Roman Postolka dropped a tight 6-4 decision to the Panthers' Patrick Lazo and Diego Padilha on court three, giving Georgia State a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers would then clinch Sunday's match with straight set victories on courts one, five and six. Thanos Spyropoulos', Vojtech Podzemny's and Postolka's matches all went unfinished.

UAB will make a midweek road trip to Florence, Alabama, for a match at North Alabama. First serve on Wednesday is set for 2 p.m. UAB earned its first win of the 2021-22 season over UNA on Jan. 30, posting a 6-1 victory in Birmingham.
