Puric Rallies to Lead UAB to 4-3 Win at North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. – Sophomore Nikola Puric rallied from a set down to lead UAB to a 4-3 victory at North Alabama on Wednesday afternoon.
After North Alabama's Chris Zhang tied Wednesday's match at 3-3 with a 7-6, 6-4 win on court three, Puric rallied from a 6-4 first-set defeat to post a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over UNA's Nazar Fedoryshyn on court five to seal the match for the Blazers.
The Blazers opened Wednesday's match by winning the doubles point. The pairing of Michal Lusovsky and Vojtech Podzemny earned a 6-2 win on court one before Thanos Spyropoulos and Nir Vodavoz secured the opening point for the Blazers with a 6-3 victory on court two. Puric and Roman Postolka's match went unfinished on court three with the score tied at 3-3.
Lusovsky, Puric and Martin Vasquez notched victories in singles play. Lusovsky posted UAB's first singles triumph in straight sets, defeating North Alabama ace Carlos Matarredona 6-4, 6-3 on court one. Vasquez also recorded his victory in straight sets, defeating UNA's Jamie Bixby 7-6, 6-3 on court six.
Wednesday's victory over the Lions moved the Blazers to a perfect 20-0 in the series. UAB's win in Florence was the Blazers' first outside of Birmingham in the all-time series.

UAB will return to Birmingham for a two-game home stand, hosting Chattanooga and Alabama A&M at the Lakeshore Tennis Courts. Friday's match is set for 2 p.m., while Saturday's match is set for 1 p.m.
