UAB Men's Tennis Hosts ETSU, Travels to Georgia State This Weekend

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team will play a pair of matches this weekend, opening its weekend slate at home against ETSU on Saturday before making the short drive to Atlanta for a match at Georgia State on Sunday.
Saturday's match against the Buccaneers will start at 2 p.m. at the Lakeshore Tennis Courts. Sunday's match at Georgia State is set to begin at 3 p.m. CT.
UAB LATELY
UAB again split a pair of matches this past weekend, falling 5-2 on Saturday against Lamar before earning head coach Justin DeSanto's first conference victory as a head coach with a 4-1 win at Southern Miss on Sunday.
The Blazers won the doubles point to open Sunday's match against the Golden Eagles, winning on courts one and three to open with a 1-0 lead. Michal Lusovsky, Roman Postolka and Vojtech Podzemny all then earned victories in straight sets to clinch the match for the Blazers. Postolka's 6-4, 6-2 win on court four sealed the win for the Green and Gold.
UAB dropped its matchup against the Cardinals 5-2 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Postolka and Noah Malige each earned singles victories in the setback, while Lusovsky and Nikola Puric each dropped competitive three-set matches in Saturday's setback.
ETSU LATELY
East Tennessee State is 4-4 on the season with a 68-61 record in singles matches and 30-26 mark in doubles action. Juan S. Zabala (13-6), Thiago Pernas (12-5) and Frazier Rengifo (11-6) pace the Buccaneers in singles victories this season.
In doubles, the pairing of Dimitri Badra and Francisco Lamas hold a perfect 4-0 record this season, winning all four of their doubles matches on court four.
UAB holds a 5-3 advantage over ETSU in the all-time series history. ETSU, however, has won the past three matchups with UAB's last win over the Bucs coming in 2006.
GEORGIA STATE LATELY
Georgia State has opened its season 3-4 after posting a 15-8 record in 2020-21. The Panthers have posted wins over Wofford, South Florida and Stetson so far this season, winning two of those three matchups via a 4-3 decision.
The Panthers have dropped their past three matches with road defeats to teams inside the ITA's Division I Men's National Team Rankings, falling at Furman (No. 60), Miami (No. 35) and Florida Atlantic (No. 33). Senior Andrei Duarte (5-1) leads the Panthers in singles action.
UAB is 2-5 against Georgia State with its last win against the Panthers coming back on March 13, 2013, in Birmingham.
