Women’s Tennis Faces Samford, Central Arkansas

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's tennis team returns to Birmingham this week for a pair of matches against Samford and Central Arkansas. Both matches will be played at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion on Samford's campus.
UAB LATELY
UAB (0-3) is coming off a 6-1 loss at Alabama on Jan. 29. Enya Ratkic was the Blazers' lone point winner with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Kasia Pitak on Court 6.
SAMFORD LATELY
Samford (2-1) opened the season with a 7-0 shutout of Alabama State before falling to Alabama 6-1. The Bulldogs were 6-1 winners over North Alabama on Jan. 28.
THE SERIES AGAINST SAMFORD
UAB holds a 15-12 edge over Samford. The Blazers have won three of the last four meetings over the Bulldogs. Samford leads 10-7 while hosting.
LAST MATCH AGAINST SAMFORD (2/24/21)
Adela Wasserbauerova and Dominika Hrabalova along with Megan Bertrands and Annalisa Smith were winners on Courts 1 and 3 respectively to capture the doubles point. UAB went ahead 2-0 after Sydney Clarke was a 6-1, 6-1 winner on Court 4. The Bulldogs got their first point of the match on Court 5 and tied the match at 2-2 after winning on Court 3. Jana Hecking came back from dropping the first set to win on Court 1 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. The clincher came from Annalisa Smith after a 7-6, 6-4 victory on Court 6. Hrabalova finished her match on Court 2 with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win.
CENTRAL ARKANSAS LATELY
Central Arkansas (2-2) won two if its three matches last week. The Bears defeated Austin Peay and Kansas City and fell to Arkansas.
THE SERIES CENTRAL ARKANSAS
UAB and UCA have met once on Jan. 19, 2020 in Auburn The Blazers won the match 4-1.
LAST MATCH AGAINST CENTRAL ARKANSAS (1/19/20)
After dropping the doubles point, the Blazers got singles wins from Jana Hecking, Alexia Witthaus, Megan Bertrands and Dominika Hrabalova. All four won in straight sets.
UP NEXT
The next three matches will be played at Lakeshore Tennis Courts. UAB's home opener is Feb. 6 against Chattanooga. Pizza will be provided and the first 25 fans will receive UAB women's tennis t-shirts. Match time is scheduled for noon. The Blazers will host Kennesaw State on Feb. 10 and UT Martin on Feb. 12.
