UAB and UTSA Clash on Saturday at Protective Stadium

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB football team returns home to host defending Conference USA Champion and league leading UTSA this Saturday, Nov. 5, at Protective Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
UAB looks to end a two-game skid after back-to-back one possession road losses. UTSA enters the contest having won five games in a row and is undefeated in league play.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
- UAB is 4-0 at home this year and is averaging 42.3 points per game. In four home games, the Blazers have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 169-55. Overall, UAB is 7-2 at Protective Stadium and 28-3 in front of its home fans since returning to action in 2017.
- DeWayne McBride was announced as a Maxwell Award Semifinalist on Tuesday and is one of 20 players nation-wide up for the Collegiate Player of the Year honor, and the only player from the Group of 5.
- McBride is having an All-America worthy season as he closes in on UAB's single season rushing record. He is currently leading the nation in rushing yards per game (163.7) and is 46 yards away from becoming just the second player in school history to eclipse 3,000 career rushing yards. He has 1,146 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns this season and has rushed for over 100 yards in every game, with two 200-yard games.
- In 26 career games, McBride has rushed for 2,956 yards and 29 touchdowns. He is the NCAA active career leader in rushing yards per game (113.7) and yards per carry (7.1).
- The Blazer offense is facing a UTSA defense that ranks seventh in Conference USA in total defense (419.38) and allows 269.0 yards per game through the air. However, The Roadrunners have the league's third-ranked rush defense, allowing 150.4 yards per game.
- Conversely, UTSA has the top scoring offense in Conference USA at 35.6 points per game and averages 489.8 total yards per game (15th nationally). Led by the reigning Conference USA Player of the Year Frank Harris, UTSA has won 18 of their last 22 games overall.
- This season, Harris has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week four times and averages 317.3 passing yards per game with 17 touchdowns and a completion percentage of 68.9. His top three receivers have combined for 2,099 of their 2,643 passing yards.
- UAB boasts an elite defense that leads the league in total defense and pass defense. The Blazers rank fourth nationally in pass defense efficiency (104.69), ninth in passing yards allowed (171.5), 20th in scoring defense (18.5) and 23rd in total defense (328.2).
- The Blazers have not allowed more than 28 points in any game this season and have not allowed more than 214 passing yards in a contest this year.
- UAB leads the all-time series against the Roadrunners 4-2 and is 2-0 in Birmingham. The last time the two teams met was an instant classic, but saw UTSA score with two seconds left for a 34-31 victory in San Antonio.
