WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
- This UAB senior class has been the most successful group of players in program history. They have helped UAB win its first two Conference USA Championships in school history (2018 & 2020) and have helped the Blazers become the winningest team in Conference USA since 2017.
- Specifically, seniors Will Boler, Grayson Cash and Kyle Harrell are the three remaining players who have been with the program since 2017 and have been a part of all 47 victories.
- UAB is undefeated against North Texas in Birmingham (3-0) and leads the all-times series 5-1. Aside from last year's 40-6 UAB victory, the three previous meetings before that were all one possession games (2017 – UNT 46-43, 2018 – UAB 29-21, 2019 – UAB 26-21).
- Once again, UAB will face a potent offense as North Texas enters the game leading Conference USA in total offense (503.8) and is tied for the league lead in scoring offense (37.2).
- Conference USA's top two rushing offenses will be going head-to-head this weekend with UAB averaging 244.4 yards per game (sixth nationally), and North Texas averaging 218.6.
- DeWayne McBride continues to be one of the most dynamic players in the nation as the leads the country in rushing yards per game (160.9) and rushes of 20+ yards (16). McBride has rushed for over 100 yards in every game this season (8), and despite missing the first game of the season, he has the second most total rushing yards in the nation (1,287).
- Maybe more impressively, with 183 carries this season, McBride is averaging 7.03 yards per carry which is the third highest average in the nation. Additionally, McBride's 14 rushing touchdowns rank him fourth nationally.
- North Texas quarterback Austin Aune, who is 29 years old and was in the New York Yankees farm system for six years, enters the contest with the third most passing touchdowns in the nation (28). He has thrown for 2,753 yards and is averaging 275.3 passing yards per game.
- UAB continues to be stout in passing defense, having not allowed a 300-yard passer the entire season. UAB has held eight of nine opponents under 215 passing yards and enters the game ranked 17th nationally in pass efficiency defense and 23rd in passing yards allowed.
- Senior Noah Wilder has 318 career tackles and is four tackles away from moving into third place on UAB's career tackles list. He has four double digit tackle games this season and leads Conference USA with an average of 10.0 tackles per game.
