The Blazers (5-5, 3-4 C-USA) held North Texas (6-5, 5-2 C-USA), who entered the game leading Conference USA in offense, to just 264 total yards, which was 239 under their season average.
McBride rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns to mark his 10th straight game going over 100 rushing yards. However, it was Jermaine Brown Jr. who led the team in rushing with a career-high 150 rushing yards.
Defensively, senior cornerback Devodric Bynum had a career day with eight tackles, two pass breakups, two tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble. Fellow senior Tyler Taylor had a team-high nine tackles and Noah Wilder added six to move into third place on UAB's career tackles list. Wilder now has 324 career tackles.
The Blazers got off to an ideal start courtesy of Bynum's sack fumble on UNT's first possession which was recovered by Kelle Sanders to set up the Blazer offense in the red zone.
Six plays later, McBride punched it in from the three yard line for his 15th touchdown of the year.
UAB raced out to a 14-0 lead following an 8-play, 73-yard drive which McBride capped with his school record-tying 16th rushing touchdown at the 9:12 mark of the first quarter.
However, North Texas scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to surge ahead 21-14. Matt Quinn would end the run with a 24-yard field goal with 1:49 left as North Texas took a 21-17 lead into the locker room.
Quinn's field goal was the start of 27 straight points for UAB, which included outscoring UNT 24-0 in the second half. The big play of the game was a 76-yard pitch and catch from Dylan Hopkins to Tejhaun Palmer, which set up a 2-yard touchdown pass from Hopkins to Trea Shropshire with 3:10 left in the quarter to give UAB a 27-21 lead.
From there, McBride would set the touchdown record with 7:55 in the fourth, and Brown Jr. sealed the deal with a 1-yard run with :54 left in the game for the 20-point victory.
UAB had 505 yards of total offense to mark its fourth time this season compiling over 500 yards of total offense. UAB outgained UNT 505-264.
UAB finished the year 5-1 at Protective Stadium and is now 29-4 in Birmingham since returning to action in 2017.
UAB now heads to LSU next week for a night game in Death Valley. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
