HANRAHAN, LA. – The UAB Bowling team placed eighth (4-8) at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane this past weekend.
"The win-loss record does not reflect how well our girls bowled. There were a ton of ranked teams, and the girls showed a lot of fire and grit throughout the weekend that we can build off of moving forward," said Head Coach Michelle Crews. "Finishing 8th is a great showing for our first tournament and we're seeing our competitiveness come out again."
Friday consisted of five baker matches. The Blazers started off strong in match one after defeating the defending ITC Champions, Stephen F. Austin, 950 to 895. UAB bowled 898 in the second match of the day, but only total pinfalls were accounted for in qualifying for seeding on Sunday. To close out the day, the Blazers fell short against Alabama State (905-738), Texas Southern (903-894) and Sam Houston (896-992).
On Saturday, five traditional matches were played. UAB started the day with two losses against Lincoln Memorial (1,013-981) and Tulane (943-738). However, in match eight of the tournament, the Green and Gold defeated Prairie View A&M 1,022 to 817. The team battled through match nine against Louisiana Tech but fell shy (1,041-930).
Ending on a high note heading into seeding for Sunday, the Blazers beat Alabama A&M 841 to 885. UAB entered bracket play on Sunday in a tie for seventh place with Jackson State. Moving through the three best 4-of-7 baker matches, the Blazers finished eighth overall.
Individually, two Blazers finished in the top 20 – Jamie Krasnigor (8th) and Keagan Trexler (15th). Krasnigor led the way with an average 205.20 and three games over 200. Trexler averaged 195.60 and also recorded three games over 200.
