LAST TIME OUT
UAB hung tight with No. 23 FIU on Saturday, having its late comeback fall just short in a 2-1 defeat. After a scoreless first half, the Panthers (5-1-1, 1-0 C-USA) netted a pair of goals within the first six minutes of the second half to take a 2-0 advantage. Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro and Stephen Afrifa tallied the goals for FIU.
The Blazers, however, would apply pressure after FIU's early surge in the second half. Senior Brooks Rice nearly trimmed FIU's lead to a single goal when he fired a shot off the left post in the 72nd minute. Another senior, Mason Robicheaux, then brought the Green and Gold within one when his shot from the right side beat the FIU keeper in the 88th minute.
Following Robicheaux's first goal of the season, UAB was unable to find the equalizer. The Blazers fired nine shots, three of which were on target, in the matchup against No. 23 FIU. UAB topped FIU with a 5-2 advantage in earned corner kicks.
Robicheaux's score made him the sixth Blazer this season to tally a goal. Nathaniel St. Louis still leads the Blazers in goals (four), points (nine), shots (14) and shots on target (11). Goalkeeper Trevor Jackson paces UAB with 16 saves and a .696 save percentage.
THE SERIES VS. GEORGIA STATE
Georgia State hold a 15-9-1 advantage in the series against the Blazers, winning four of the past five matchups.
UAB's last victory in the series came in convincing fashion, pushing four goals across in a 4-0 home win over the Panthers in 2018. Former Blazer Blake White secured a brace in the 4-0 victory, scoring both of his goals in the first half.
SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
Georgia State, a former member of the Sun Belt, began its first season as a men's soccer member of the Mid-American Conference in August. The Panthers have opened the season 6-2, reeling off three straight victories after a double-overtime setback at Belmont on Sept. 10.
Georgia State has netted two or more goals in five of its six matches this season with an average of 2.13 goals per game. The Panthers have outscored opponents 8-3 during their current three-game winning streak.
Freshman forward Ethan Sassine leads Georgia State with four goals and eight points. Ten different Panthers have found the back of the net this season, including four players with two goals or more.
