BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team's comeback in the Conference USA opener against No. 23 FIU came up short Saturday night as the Blazers fell 2-1 at BBVA Field.
Trailing 2-0, Mason Robicheaux found the back of the net for UAB (2-5-0, 0-1-0 C-USA) in the 88th minute, but the Blazers would not be able to get the equalizer.
After a scoreless 1st half, FIU (5-1-1, 1-0-0 C-USA) scored twice in the span of two minutes to open up the 2nd half. Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro took a cross from Stephen Afrifa in the 49th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Afrifa would add an insurance goal in the 51st minute, extending the lead to 2-0.
