UAB Men’s Basketball Schedule Update: Opponents Set for Las Vegas Classic

Blazers Open Tournament With New Mexico
BIRMINGHAM -- The four-team field and schedule for Thanksgiving weekend's Las Vegas Classic has been set. UAB's men's basketball team will open the two-day tournament with Mountain West foe New Mexico on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 25). The Blazers will then face either San Francisco or Towson on Friday, Nov. 26, to close out their time in Las Vegas.
The Blazers and Lobos will meet for just the second time when they square off in the opening round of the Las Vegas Classic. UAB will look to avenge its 97-94 defeat to the Lobos from the opening round of 2013's Charleston Classic. Former Blazer and First Team All-Conference USA selection Chad Frazier dropped 34 points in the high-scoring battle to the No. 19 Lobos.
New Mexico enters its first year with Richard Pitino leading the program. Pitino held a 141-123 record in an eight-year stint at Minnesota.
San Francisco defeated then-No. 4 Virginia in just its third matchup of the 2020-21 season. The Dons went 11-14 this past season and return their top two scorers in Jamaree Bouyea (17.3 ppg) and Khalil Shabazz (15.0 ppg).
Towson returns two of its top three scorers from this past season, highlighted by redshirt junior Nicolas Timberlake (12.1 ppg). The Tigers went 19-13 in 2019-20 before posting a 4-14 record in 2020-21.
